Over the past few months, there have been several reports of deformed calves sired by the Canadian bull, Fradon Redliner-Red-ET CAN7528698. Holstein Association USA staff is taking this very seriously. We are in communication with Holstein Canada, the Canadian breeder and owner of Redliner, as well as Taurus Service, the distributor of Redliner semen in the U.S.
A pathologist has examined several deformed calves allegedly sired by Redliner and will continue to do so as new cases are reported. Initial genetic research on the pedigrees of the afflicted calves does not fit the inheritance pattern of a simple recessive genetic condition. Other hypotheses are being tested as more data is accumulated. Our investigation will continue until such time that there is complete confidence that any published material can be substantiated by the research.
