Junior Advisory Committee (JAC)

Purpose
The purpose of the Junior Advisory Committee is to serve as a sounding board for Junior members and advisors.  The committee members represent various areas of the country and are given the opportunity to contribute ideas and suggestions for improvement and expansion of Junior programs.  Their suggestions are presented to the Board of Directors.

The National Junior Advisory Committee consists of twelve members:

●    Four adults appointed by the Holstein Association USA Board of Directors.

●    Four adult members, each representing one of the four designated areas across the U.S.
Adult members are allowed to serve a maximum of two, two-year terms.  Adults are selected by the Holstein Associations USA, Board of Directors using the following criteria:

  • Must serve or recently have served as a youth advisor or leader in a state or regional Junior program.
  • Must be extremely knowledgeable of National Junior Holstein programs.
  • Must have a strong communication and information gathering/distribution network within their designated state and or area.
  • Must commit to attending designated Junior Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Must display the highest standards of ethics and commitment to youth programs.

●    Four youth members, each representing one of the four designated districts across the U.S.
Youth members are allowed to serve a two–year term.  Any National Junior member in good standing shall be eligible for election to the Junior Advisory Committee.  Persons wishing to receive the nomination must inform the Junior Advisory Committee at the start of the National Holstein Convention.  Members will elect youth from their area during the National Junior Forum.

Meetings
The Junior Advisory Committee will hold one meeting a year, and have scheduled conference calls.  Additional meetings may be called upon request of the majority of the committee members.

Voting
A majority of JAC members will constitute a quorum at all meetings.  Business that requires voting may not transact until a quorum of members is present.  Discussion of non-voting business may proceed without a quorum present.

Responsibilities
JAC members are responsible for brainstorming, considering, and carrying out suggestions for improving the Junior program in their area as well as across the country.  All members of JAC are expected to comply with a signed Code of Conduct.  Failure to comply may result in removal from the committee.

As part of JAC responsibilities youth representatives act as Holstein staff during National Junior Convention.  Duties include making announcements and speeches while participating in activities.  They are also accountable for arranging a selection committee to choose the Judi Collinsworth Outstanding Junior Exhibitor Memorial Award winner in their district.  This award is presented in the spring and fall at all national shows.

Travel
JAC members are allowed to take one travel trip a year, as approved by staff.  However, the trip must be state or regionally sponsored.  Host states need to pick up meals and hotel expenses for the representatives.  For more information contact the Holstein Association at 800-952-5200, or a representative from your area:
