Every day some segment of government deals with an agricultural issue. In order to make sure that the needs of dairy producers are looked out for, we must make sure that our needs are voiced, and are on the forefront of our representatives minds as they create and vote on new and revised legislation.

Creating a solidified voice for the industry takes the leadership of many - starting with you. Establish a rapport with your representatives through personal visits, phone calls, letters or even hosting meetings to keep dairy industry issues on the forefront of their minds. You have the power to make our officials aware of how policies impact you, and as the people to whom our officials are responsible, we all need to make sure that ignorance of the issue is never behind an unfavorable law being passed.

If you aren't sure where to start you can use the Nationwide Congressional District Finder to find out who your elected officials are and how to contact them by simply entering your zip code. The Thomas Legislative Information site provides details on the various committess in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, which means you can target your message to the people creating the legislature that will govern our industry.
